Someone who attended the party and auction sale of the Philippine Philatelic Auction Club's 12th anniversary celebration said he remembers well the good food served during this event.

Someone else pasted this ticket on an envelope and had it cancelled on October 9 -- foundation day of PPAC.

Springpex 91

Here is a Springpex '91 show cover signed by Juan Co (president of Filipino-Chinese Philatelic Society), Wilson Te (president of Chinese Philatelists), and Carlos Inductivo (president of the Philippine Philatelic Auction Club).

According to a pencilled notation on the back, there are only four such covers signed by all three presidents.

The exhibit was held at Manila from February 2 to 8, 1991.

PPAC 8th anniversary

Here's a pair of TB seals overprinted by the Philippine Philatelic Auction Club for its 8th anniversary.

The foundation day of the PPAC is October 9, which also is World Post Day.

This issue of the TB seal was released in 1976.

Here's a Postpex '82 cover with a marginal block of ten Woman & Carabao stamps of 1935 privately overprinted by the Philippine Philatelic Auction Club.

This was for the 5th anniversary of PPAC in 1982.

The 10th Anniversary Philippine-China Diplomatic Relations Philatelic Exhibition was held at Manila.

It was jointly sponsored by the China National Stamp Corporation, the Bureau of Posts, Filipino-Chinese Amity Club, Philippine Philatelic Auction Club, and the Filipino-Chinese Philatelic Society.

Philacon '92 postcard

Here is a postcard for Philacon '92, the Second National Philatelic Convention, held at Cebu City from October 22 to 24, 1992.

On the back is a stamp cancelled with a Philacon '92 slogan cancellation dated October 9, 1992, the 15th anniversary of the Philippine Philatelic Auction Club. There are two signatures, most likely PPAC members. One is that of (my guess) Carlos Inductivo (who conducted the "grand auction" of Philacon '91).

The slogan's message is delightsome: Happiness is Collecting Stamps!

Postage Stamp Day card

According to a stamp dealer, this souvenir item was made for a Postpex event of the Philippine Philatelic Auction Club. This must have fallen on Postage Stamps Day of 1979.

Printed by silkscreen, the image at top illustrates the first stamp of the Spanish Philippines.

Affixed on the card is the 1949 Universal Postal Union souvenir sheet overprinted in 1963 for the 15th anniversary of the United Nations adoption of the Declaration of Human Rights.

The sheet is cancelled on October 9, 1979.

PPAC private overprints

Aside from Postpex '82 souvenir cards, the Philippine Philatelic Auction Club also came out with privately overprinted stamps for its 5th year anniversary in 1982.

These came with additional printing on the selvage reading "Stamp Collecting is Fun and Gains" and were overprinted on the 1935 Woman & Carabao issue.

Stamp Clubs News

STAMPPS is the acronym for the stamp club of the Philippine Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC). It stands for Society for the Advancement and Modulation of Philately among PAECians. Club secretary Eduardo R. Mendoza reports that STAMPPS has, so far, conducted three auction sales, four philatelic lectures and one stamp exhibit at PAEC.
     Other STAMPPS officers for 1982-83 are Elmer C. Hernandez, president; Eulinia M. Valdezco, vice president; Jean M. Casyao, treasurer; Alexis D. Dandoy, auditor; and Norma L. Pablo, PRO. The club secretary may be contacted....

BRO. Jaime Dalumpines FSC of La Salle Bacolod reports that the Bacolod City Philatelic Club is rather inactive these days. According to BCPC secretary Clotilde Alcala, the reason for this is that many members are out of the country. Those Negrenses, really.
     BCPC president Jun Pefianco may be contacted.... Stamp collectors in Negros Occidental are encouraged to join the club.

In Davao City, the Ateneo Stamp Club was organized last June for grade school students [for high school, not grade school -- O.]. Student moderator of the club is Orwin Austria. The club officers for the school year are Virgilio Mababa Jr., president; Samuel Bangoy, vice president; Michael Ramos, treasurer; Regina Angeles, secretary; Noel Cespon, PRO, and Manuel de Luna, artist....

Philippine Stamp Collectors..., the stamp club that has no meetings and runs purely by mail, has recently inaugurated approval services for its members. The PSC now has over 125 members nationwide and has a full roster of club services. All stamp collectors, especially those in the provinces, are invited to join PSC.

Atty. Virginia Europa, president of Davao Stamp Collectors, reports on the club's efforts to hold a stamp exhibit at the Ateneo de Davao fiesta last Aug. 13-15: "We tried to make it as beautiful as possible only to be disappointed because, at the last minute, the Jesuits had to cancel the celebrations in the high school department due to several bomb threats they received several days before."
     Meanwhile, the DSC is gaining more and more members every time it holds its monthly meetings. Interested philatelists in the Davao area may contact....

The Philippine Philatelic Auction Club...has finally come out with a newsletter: Philippine Philatelic Auction Clipper with Felifranco R. Luto as editor/writer. This is part of the PPAC's activities for its fifth anniversary celebration which culminates on Oct. 9, its foundation day, with a non-competitive stamp exhibition.
     The PPAC is holding its regular auction at 1:30 p.m. today at the APPU-UPU conference room, 3rd floor, Bureau of Posts bldg. All stamp collectors are welcome. PPAC president Carlos Inductivo Sr. announced that the club's souvenir card and seals will be issued during the auction-meeting. These will be made available to members first for a nominal donation.

A slogan cancellation for the 55th year anniversary of the Philippine Philatelic Club promoted philately once more in 1992.

Interestingly, the name of the club's founder is given in this cover: Severino N. Luna, who also founded the Philippine Philatelic Auction Club years later in 1977.

I wonder what the source of the cachet was.

Stamp Clubs News

Early 1982 saw the birth of a new club publication, IPPS NEWS, of the International Philippine Philatelic Society....According to Compiler/Editor Linda Stanfield, this mimeographed quarterly does not replace the club's Philippine Philatelic News, the highly respected publication for studies and researches on all periods and aspects of Philippine philately.
     The IPPS NEWS is the brainchild of the club's President, Eugene A. Garrett....It will become "a venue for discussing club activities, for club news, for questions and answers, etc...." The 10 pages of the maiden issue certainly do all these and more. Its front page carries a facsimile of a cacheted cover for the Concert at the Park 200 issue -- with an actual stamp and first day cancellation!
     To all IPPS members all over the world, the new club publication is certainly a welcome treat. In the words of Ms. Stanfield, "This is going to be our medium of keeping in touch with one another and opening a line of communications among ourselves."

A new stamp club, the Davao Stamp Collectors, was formally organized on Feb. 14 with 20 members attending its organizational meeting. Elected officers of the DSC are Atty. Virginia H. Europa, President; Mrs. Fe Geonson, Secretary; Miss Jojie Antonio, Treasurer; and Dr. Cesar Somoso, PRO. Atty. Rodolfo Sarenas, former mayor of Davao City (1944-45) [he was the mayor from 1953-54; Juan Sarenas was mayor from 1943-44 --O.], is the Club Adviser.
     Regular club meetings will be held on the first Sunday of every quarter with committee meetings, get-togethers and conferences in-between. Temporary DSC headquarters is the EDI Law Office with Ms. Alma Grado as acting Office Manager. The club President may be contacted at the City Court....
     Davao Stamp Collectors is inviting all stamp collectors in the area to join its membership rolls.

The Board of Directors of the Philippine Philatelic Auction Club has elected its set of Officers for 1982: President, Don Carlos Inductivo; Vice President, Ms. Naty G. Lozano; Secretary, Ms. Josefina T. Cura; Treasurer, Mr. Felipe Liao. The club's headquarters remain at Rm. 223, Madrigal Bldg., Escolta, Manila.

March 12 saw the organization of the Bacolod City Philatelic Club. Its Officers are Mr. Jun Pefianco...,President; Ms. Suzette Muñozca, Vice President; Ms. Cloty L. Alcala, Secretary; Mrs. Carmela Namin, Treasurer; Dra. Fe Montinola, PRO. Facilitator in the organization of the club was Ms. Naty G. Lozano, VP of the Philippine Philatelic Auction Club who was in Bacolod for the La Salle Stamp Exhibit and for holidays with relatives and friends.
     Some 20 members attended the organizational meeting of the BCPC and a second meeting was scheduled for the end of the month. All stamp collectors in Bacolod and the rest of Negros Occidental are encouraged to join the club.

The Grade School Stamp Club of La Salle College, Bacolod City, held a very successful competitive stamp exhibition in the school library last March 4-5. The affair was graced by the presence of Postmaster General J. Roilo Golez, Stamp and Philatelic Section Chief Ben Moncayo, Stamp Designer Antonio Chuidian and Mrs. Adelina Argente, senior officer of the Stamp and Philatelic Section.
     According to Bro. Jaime Dalumpines, FSC, exhibition coordinator, the Bureau of Posts and some Manila philatelists also sent over some materials for exhibition. The affair was given much publicity on TV and radio all over the province.

Over at Alabang in south Metro-Manila, the Philatelic Club of the de la Salle Zobel School also held a Philatelic Exhibition at the school auditorium from March 3 to 5. The grade school affair had formal ribbon-cutting ceremonies attended by school officials led by Bro. Raymond Bronowics, FSC, Director.
     President of the school's stamp club is Maximilian Fernandez. Moderators are Miss Gloria Pante and Mrs. Antonita Jose.

The Philippine Philatelic Auction Club...celebrated its 4th anniversary with a luncheon and grand auction at the Kowloon House...on Dec. 6, 1981. The affair drew over 150 members and guests and occasioned the official launching of PPAC's Catalogue of Philippine Postage Stamps, 1982 Edition.
     Right after luncheon, election of the club's 1982 Board of Directors were held by a show of hands. Elected were Josefina T. Cura, Larry Dolan, Jose Luis Faustman, Fernando Gaite Jr., Carlos Inductivo, Amando Labayen Jr., Philip Liao, Naty G. Lozano, Rogelio Quistol, Nemesio Rivera, Jorge delos Santos, Antonio So and Quintin Tan. Some directors of 1981 did not accept nominations but took charge of the elections.
     The PPAC's annual award of Appreciation for the individual who contributed most to the advancement of philately was given to Mandy Labayen, writer of the weekly column "Sunday Philatelist" which appears in the Philippine Sunday Express.

The International Philippine Philatelic Society...concluded its first mail auction with success in terms of prices realized and participation of Philippine specialists both here and abroad. This was announced by Ms. Linda Stanfield, IPPS Secretary and RP Representative.
     Among the mail auction highlights: Sc. No. 223 of 1900 for P2,600, 30% over catalog value; a used 20c Manila-Madrid for P95, just a little over full catalog; 1943 Kalayaan FDC postmarked Bacolod for P300, and Surigao for P320; an imperf pair of 30s Kennedy for P1,500, and a se-tenant PLDT pair with values omitted for P800.
     Ms. Stanfield also announced that all 4 IPPS members who joined the ROCPEX '81of Taipei, forming the total entries on Philippine philately, won awards. They are Mario Que of the Philippines and IPPS US members C.L. Harb, William J. Oliver and Robert W. Thompson.

Mr. Ysmael "Boy" Inductivo, President of the Philatelic Philippines Exchange Guild...announced that the club's newsletter will now come out three times a year instead of quarterly starting with 1982. This move was decided upon in order not to increase annual membership dues despite increased printing costs. In fact, payment in used stamps has been reduced from 200 to 150 so as to encourage more members from areas where US-dollars and IRCs are not easily available.
     The latest issue of PALS lists scores of friend-seekers, mainly stamp collectors, from some two dozen countries around the globe. Members who pay their annual membership fees on or before April 1982 will still be entitled to four issues of PALS.

The International Philippine Philatelic Society...was recently host to Taiwan-based member Ray Coughlin, who was in the country for a visit. His children will be studying here. The IPPS is the internationally recognized society for specialists in Philippine philately and postal history.

The Philatelic Club of the Philippines...held an auction/meeting  last August 2 at the New World Restaurant in Binondo, Manila, with some two dozen members attending. Organized over 20 years ago as the Filipino-Chinese Philatelic Club, current PCP officers are Benny So (President) and Co Bian Bian (Vice President).

Philippine Stamp Collectors...observed its sixth month of existence in July with over 70 members from all over the country with a little less than half in Metro Manila. Hobby Time has been adopted by PSC as its official organ with a supplementary newsletter for members only. PSC membership is still open.

The Education Committee of the Philippine Philatelic Auction Club...has postponed its scheduled showing of films on the U.N. Postal Administration and its stamps. Regular PPAC auction is set for September 27 at the APPU Conference Room, 3rd floor, Bureau of Posts Bldg., Manila. Meanwhile, the 1982 edition of the PPAC Catalog of RP issues (up to May 1981) has been prepared for printing by Linda Stanfield and Tony So.

The second quarter issue of PALS, the international penpals publication of Philatelic Philippines Exchange Guild...has come out with the names and particulars (hobbies, interests, etc.) of over 60 members in 24 countries. A copy is available at P2.00, postage included. Membership is still open.

Stamp Clubs News

The Educational Committee of the Philippine Philatelic Auction Club, organized to promote philately among beginners of all ages, has been holding a series of lectures at the Bureau of Posts Bldg., Manila, for this purpose.
     Lecturer last March 15 was Mr. Epi Paras, former President of the APO Philatelic Society and current President of the Bayanihan Coin Club. His topic was General Philately which offered handy tips on many aspects of the hobby. Over 50 tyro-philatelists came.
     Topic for the May 3 lecture was Approaches to Topical Stamp Collecting which was handled by philatelic writer Mandy Labayen. Over 70 new collectors came, including some children. Several stamp dealers were also invited to sell beginners' materials before the lecture.
     The next meeting is scheduled for June. As usual, the general public is invited....

A philatelic milestone was recently made by the International Philippine Philatelic Society with the publication of its official organ devoted entirely to the cataloguing of Errors, Freaks and Oddities among RP stamps, 1946 to 1979.
     The 88-page catalog is profusely illustrated. Many of the items here are merely interesting freaks and oddities. However, there are many major errors too -- missing colors and perfs, inverted and double overprints, etc. Many of these will be listed in the forthcoming Stanley Gibbons Catalog.
     The IPPS EFO Catalog is given free to all IPPS members who will also have priority in the purchase of extra copies. It is not yet determined whether there will be any copies left for nonmembers.
Orchids are due tireless compilers Dr. Ngo Tiong Tak, Mario Que and Linda Stanfield (IPPS Editor-in-Chief)....

A stamp club "for stamp collectors who cannot attend club meetings but want to enjoy all the benefits of a stamp club" was launched last January 31. This is Philippine Stamp Collectors. To-date, the club counts 64 members from all over the country. It is sponsored by Spenders Philippine Stamps.
     PSC members receive Hobby Time as their official club organ with a newsletter supplement on club activities, membership news, on-going services, bargains, etc., for members only. Membership in the PSC is still open at P25.00 a year....

The Philatelic Philippines Exchange Guild has recently come out with the 2nd Quarter 1981 issue of PALS, its international list of hobbyists and friend-seekers. The publication lists several dozen members in 20 countries with their complete address, particulars and wants. Most are stamp collectors looking for stamp exchange partners. Some are looking for romance and their lifetime partners.
     PALS also contains interesting articles and ads of other hobby-correspondence clubs from all over the world....

Stamp Clubs News

The Stamp Club of de la Salle University Grade School, Manila, is busy preparing for a competitive exhibition to open on Feb. 23.             According to club moderator Rene Aquino, there will be two categories: one for members in Grades 3, 4 & 5, and another for those in Grades 6 and 7.
      Each participant is limited to one frame of 6 quadrille pages. There will be 3 prizes for each category plus a Grand Award and a special trophy for the best RP entry.

Due to registration requirements, the new stamp club announced here earlier [Philippine Stamp Club] will be officially called "Philippine Stamp Collectors" (PSC). It remains a club "for stamp collectors who cannot attend club meetings but want to enjoy all the benefits of a stamp club."
      Formal launching date is Jan. 31, 1981 with Spenders Philippine Stamps as sponsor. Membership fee is P25 per annum....

The Philippine Philatelic Auction Club organized an Educational Committee under Naty "Mommy" Lozano and Josie T. Cura to promote philately among beginners of all ages. A series of lectures on the basics of philately has been scheduled.
      The first meeting was held last Jan. 25 with over 50 guests attending. Speaker was PPAC founder Severino N. Luna. Next meeting will be on March 15 with Atty. Epi Paras as lecturer....

Stamp Clubs News

According to Rene Aquino, moderator of the de la Salle (Taft) Grade School Stamp Club, his boys are already preparing for an exhibit scheduled for February 1981. The club counts over a hundred members and meets twice a week.

Down in Alabang, the de la Salle South Grade School has also organized a stamp club with some 50 boys and girls as its first members. The moderator is Miss Gloria Pante. Last Oct. 23 and 24, she led her members in viewing the UN Photo-Philatelic Exhibit at the Bureau of Posts.

In Iloilo, the Central Philippine University stamp club had the philatelic limelight from Nov. 17 to 23. It was the CPU's 75th anniversary and the Bureau of Posts marked the event with a set of stamps -- with first day of issue simultaneously in Iloilo and Manila
          For its part, the CPU stamp club held a non-competitive stamp exhibit -- one of those rare philatelic events outside Metro Manila. This was organized in cooperation with the Stamp & Philatelic Section which sent a whole delegation to Iloilo. It was headed by the Philatelic Chief himself, Mr. Ben Moncayo.

The CMLI Philatelic and Numismatic Club had an afternoon auction last Nov. 9. Although attendance was lower than expected because it coincided with the NCEE, the bids were enthusiastic according to auctioneer Boy Inductivo.
          The club will hold another auction during its Christmas Party on the afternoon of Dec. 21. According to Ruby Peria, club PRO, prospective members may come to the party.

The APO Philatelic Society formally opened its 30th Philatelic Exhibition (APOPEX) last Nov. 21. Apparently, this was not a competitive exhibit since the names of all exhibitors were displayed along with their entries. Among them were Joel Salazar, Dennis Maturan and APO Prexy Ben Aromin.
          An APO Grand Auction was also held last Nov. 30 with Tony Mendoza heading the committee and Mr. Salazar as auctioneer. For its holiday celebration, the APO has scheduled a "Fellowship Luncheon" at the Tradewinds Hotel for Dec. 6.

The Philippine Philatelic Auction Club will hold its Christmas Party on Dec. 14 at the Army & Navy Club by the Luneta. As always, an auction full of choice local and foreign materials will follow the luncheon. The next PPAC auction after this will be on the last Sunday of February.

Some Metro Manila grade schools have active stamp clubs. Among these are Ateneo de Manila University, under Mrs. A. Baterna; de la Salle University (Taft), under Mr. R. Aquino; Philippine Normal College, under Mrs. N. Jaramillo; La Salle-Alabang, under Ms. Pante; and Maryknoll College.

There used to be active clubs in Don Bosco-Makati, St. Joseph's, and Far Eastern University. Also one at Ramon Avanceña High School.

5th PPAC Foundation Day

Postage Stamp Day which falls on the 9th of October is also the foundation day of the Philippine Philatelic Auction Club.

The PPAC, being the co-sponsor of the Postage Stamp Day Philatelic Exhibition 1982, calls all its members and all philatelists to support the affair.

POSTPEX '82 will go along the lines of general Philippine philately. However, some worthwhile foreign postage stamps are expected to be included in the exhibition.

Participating philatelists will have to fill up a minimum of four frames of six album pages per frame to be registered in the exhibition. All participants will be recipients of Certificates of Participation. PPAC members interested in joining the stamp exhibition should see Nenita Urmaneta or Tony Mendoza....

A tentative program of the PPAC includes a merienda for members and guests to be held at the Stamps and Philatelic Section, main building of the Bureau of Posts. Information on specific time and other details regarding the celebration will be relayed to the members as soon as plans are finalized.

On a recent meeting of the PPAC Board of Directors, different committees were formed to spearhead the celebration....

...All other PPAC members are asked to serve as members of a committee of their choice. All are expected to support this affair in any way they can.
