Philacon '91

The First National Philatelic Convention (PHILACON '91) was held at the Manila Central Post Office from November 27 to 29, 1991.

There were 10 participating stamp clubs: APO Philatelic Society, Baguio Philatelic Society, Cebu Philatelic Society, Chinese Philatelists' Club of the Philippines, Clark Stamp Club, Filipino-Chinese Philatelic Society, General Santos City Stamp Club, International Philippine Philatelic Society, Philippine Philatelic Auction Club, and Quezon City Philatelic Society.

Shown above is the exhibition sheet on a cover of the Cebu Philatelic Society with its seal and a San Juan de la Cruz stamp cancelled by the Cebu City Post Office.

The sheet was issued earlier on October 20 by the Philacon committee (hence, it's marked Not Valid for Postage) to help raise funds for the convention.

Zambales cancel

This Castillejos (Zambales) cancellation has the year 1961 upside down, if we are to believe the serifs of the numeral 1.

souvenir album

A philatelic product of the post office in past times is the First Day of Issue souvenir album.

From examples I've seen, souvenir albums were issued from the 1950s to the first half of the 1970s.

The pages were bound by a ribbon, with the cover illustrated. Inside were the particulars of the issue and, of course, the stamp or set cancelled on the first day.

Pres. Hoover

A ship cancellation, in all likelihood.

SS President Hoover was an ocean liner from 1930 to 1937. It serviced the US-Far East route.

APO 25th

The 25th anniversary of the APO Philatelic Society was commemorated with a two-stamp issue in 1975.

Still active since its formation in 1950 (as the Amateur Philatelists Organization), the club holds a monthly auction sale in Manila.

It was formed on May 28, 1950, by three collectors and, on June 11 that year, with 12 members in attendance, APO held its organizational meeting.

Josie's Philatelic Shoppe

Josie's Philatelic Shoppe was a stamp store on Recto Avenue in Manila City from 1975 to 2011.

The store had to move out of the Laperal Building in which it was located as the building had been scheduled for demolition.

It transferred to Sta. Mesa until it closed shop in 2014.

The store was owned by Josefina T. Cura, a long-time collector and dealer who's still active in philately!

PRESS RELEASE: PHLPost issues stamp to mark Municipality of Lal-lo 435th anniversary

The Municipality of Lal-lo, province of Cagayan celebrated their patronal town fiesta with the release of PHLPost commemorative stamps highlighting the 435th foundation of the municipality.
The stamp features the historic Santo Domingo de Guzman Church which was established by the Dominicans in 1581, named Nueva Segovia. The town was the seat of the capital of Cagayan up to 1839 when the provincial government was moved to Tuguegarao.

Lal-lo was the hub of religious, trade and commercial activities of Northern Luzon. It is also one of the first four cities in the Philippines (others were Manila, 1571; Cebu, 1565; Naga, 1575).
The Sto. Domingo de Guzman Church is a massive Spanish colonial church built in solid red bricks. Across the picturesque church, and along the mighty Cagayan River is the Evangelization Cross, a wooden crucifix implanted at this site hundreds of years ago by Dominican priests.
PHLPost has printed 101,000 pieces of the municipality’s “435th Patronal Town Fiesta” commemorative stamp sold at P15.00 each.
The stamps and official first day cover are now available at the Post Shop, Central Post Office, Door 203, Liwasang Bonifacio, Manila and area post offices nationwide. For inquiries, please call 527-01-08 or 527-01-32.

Yes, there is no period after "B" on each of the three stamps above.

Can't say though if these are genuine or not, as it's likely forgeries exist.
