Postage Stamp Day card

According to a stamp dealer, this souvenir item was made for a Postpex event of the Philippine Philatelic Auction Club. This must have fallen on Postage Stamps Day of 1979.

Printed by silkscreen, the image at top illustrates the first stamp of the Spanish Philippines.

Affixed on the card is the 1949 Universal Postal Union souvenir sheet overprinted in 1963 for the 15th anniversary of the United Nations adoption of the Declaration of Human Rights.

The sheet is cancelled on October 9, 1979.

PRESS RELEASE: Miss Universe Stamps to Feature Filipina Queens

With more than two decades after the last staging of Miss Universe pageant in the Philippines, it is set to once again be held in the country on January 30 as the the reigning Miss Universe from the Philippines Pia Alonzo-Wurtzbach pass on the crown to whoever wins the title this year. And to commemorate the Philippines’ hosting of this prestigious pageant, the Philippine Postal Corporation will produce commemorative stamps featuring the Filipina beauties who have brought home the Miss Universe title.
The ‘stamp-on-stamp’ design will highlight the three maidens from Philippines who have won the much coveted crown. The first stamp design is of Miss Universe 1969 Gloria Diaz, which was released in 1994, in commemoration of the last Miss Universe pageant held in the Philippines. Second is Miss Universe 1973 Margarita Moran, which was also released in 1994. Last design is of Miss Universe 2015 Pia Alonzo-Wurtzbach, which was released last year, in celebration of her victory.
All three beauty queens were part of the PHLPost Living Legends roster, along with the first Miss World from the Philippines Meagan Lynne Young and Filipino world boxing champion Senator Manny Pacquiao. Living Legends are living personalities aside from the president and elected officials who have been featured on stamps because of the pride and honor they have brought for the country.
The stamps of Gloria Diaz, Margarita Moran and Pia Alonzo-Wurtzbach can be bought individually for P12, P17 and P55, respectively, but a whole sheetlet with all the design can also be bought. The Gloria Diaz stamp can be used for ordinary mails within Luzon, the Margarita Moran stamp for ordinary mails sent to the Visayas and Mindanao, while the Pia Alonzo-Wurtzbach stamp for mails within Asia. Meanwhile, a souvenir sheet can also be availed of for P100, containing all three designs.
The stamps and first day cover will be available starting today, January 25, 2017 at the Post Shop, Central Post Office, Door 203, Liwasang Bonifacio, Manila and all area post offices nationwide. For inquiries, please call 527-01-08 o 527-01-32.

Chrisquapipex

This privately issued souvenir sheet for Chrisquapipex was made by the Asociacion Filatelica de Filipinas.

Chrisquapipex, the Christianization Quatercentennial Philippine International Philatelic Exhibition, was held at Manila from December 6 to 12, 1965.

As noted on the sheet, this was also issued for the inauguration of the AFF as philatelic agent of the United Nations, hence a printed United Nations stamp at left.

Also noted was the fact that it was "printed with the permission of the United Nations Postal Administration."

A 6c stamp of the 1965 Christianization issue is affixed at right while a facsimile of the 70c value of the set is printed (but with different colors from the actual stamp).

PRESS RELEASE: PHLPost releases 225th Founding Anniversary of Sta. Rosa Laguna

The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) is releasing “225th Founding Anniversary of the City of Sta. Rosa, Laguna,” stamp on January 18, 2017, in commemoration of Sta. Rosa’s 225th founding anniversary.
The City of Sta. Rosa, Laguna, also known as the “Lion City of South Luzon,” is widely known for being home to a famous amusement park. It was founded on January 18, 1792. The town folks of Sta. Rosa were helpful in the Declaration of Philippine Independence from Spain during the revolutionary period in 1898. Revolutionaries from Sta. Rosa were also cited as among those who fought alongside Pio del Pilar during the Philippine-American War.
“PHLPost is privileged to take part in this momentous occasion. We are proud to present the ‘225th Founding Anniversary of the City of Sta. Rosa, Laguna,’ stamp, which shows landmarks of the beautiful city that is Sta. Rosa,” Assistant Post Master General for Marketing and
Management Support Services Luis Carlos said.
Among the most popular tourist attractions in Sta. Rosa is the Sta. Rosa Arc. The original “Bantayang Bato” was built in 1972, the year when Sta. Rosa was founded. After being refitted, it is now near the marketplace and was designed after the Arc de Triomphe in Champs Elysees, Paris, France.
The stamp, which bears the official logo of the City of Sta. Rosa, features a bust of a lion, the façade of Sta. Rosa City Hall, Museo de Santa Rosa, Sta. Rosa City Plaza, Sta. Rosa Arc, and Sta. Rosa de Lima Parish.
PHLPost commissioned security printer Amstar Co. Inc. to print 101,000 copies of the “225th Founding Anniversary of the City of Sta. Rosa, Laguna,” stamp, which is sold at P12 each. The stamp was designed by PHLPost in-house graphic artist Rodine C. Teodoro.
You may now avail yourself of the stamp at the Post Shop, Central Post office, Door 203, Liwasang Bonifacio, Manila, and area post offices nationwide and is only available until January 17, 2018 or until supplies last. For inquiries, please call 527-01-08 or 527-01-32.

Republic customs

A revenue stamp for the Philippine Customs Service, which later became the Bureau of Customs. This stamp was halved when used, thus the same two serial numbers on the left and right.

Can someone tell us more about these customs stamps? What were they for and how were they used?

Is the "Republic of the Philippines" an overprint?
