Voyage to Philately

For this month of December a "Voyage to Philately" exhibit was mounted by the Philippine Philatelic Federation at the Philpost lobby.

The frames of four pages each featured mostly Philippine material and some of the "World's Most Expensive Stamps" although all were just color photocopies (no doubt due to security concern).

The exhibit opened last December 12.

The overhead lights are newly installed chandeliers,
replacing the old hanging fluorescent bulbs.

Hong Kong '94

On February 18, 1994, a set of two stamps and two souvenir sheets were released for the HONG KONG '94 Stamp Exhibition.

Shown above is the official first day cover for the two-stamp set.

The Philippines promoted this event philatelically as did many other countries.

Christmas mail schedule

PRESS RELEASE: Send your mails and parcels early, PHLPost reminds public

December 2, 2015 As the Christmas season is coming near and people are now busy preparing for the holidays, PHLPost reminds those who wish to send their Christmas mails and presents to post it as early as possible to be able to reach its recipient before Christmas and New Year.

Postmaster General Josie dela Cruz advised the public to send their mails and parcels before the prescribed dates to guarantee the arrival of their items in time for the Yuletide season.

As a guide to senders, PHLPost issued a Christmas mail schedule for its Domestic and International Express, Registered and Ordinary Mails, and parcels where clients should send not later than the specified date to ensure that mails and parcels will reach its destination before Christmas day (December 25) and New Year (January 1).

Holiday-related Domestic Express mails (DEMS) should be sent not later than December 16 (Wednesday), and December 14 (Monday) for International Express mails (IEMS).

Domestic registered mails should be posted earlier than December 10 (Thursday.

Meanwhile, Domestic Ordinary mails should be sent on or before December 11 (Friday) while international ordinary mails should be sent not later than December 7 (Monday).

Lastly, the deadline for domestic parcels is set on December 10 (Thursday).

Dela Cruz also urged those in the provinces to mail their items earlier than the above schedule in order to reach destination in time for Christmas and New Year. Post Offices all over the country are open Mondays to Fridays, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, except holidays.

She further said that the volume of letters and parcels sent through post offices are expected to increase during the Christmas season.

[press release added later]   PRESS RELEASE: Artworks of persons with autism seen in PHLPost 2015 Pasko stamps December 7, 2015 The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) released on Monday, Dec. 7, 2015 the “Pasko 2015” special stamps featuring artworks of persons with autism from Bridges Foundation, Inc., a school that provides education to children with special needs. PHLPost launched the stamps to coincide with the program called “Kapihan with stamp collectors” held at the historic walled city of Intramuros, Manila. “We would like to give emphasis to the artistic ability or the talent of persons with developmental disabilities and make it a point that their artworks will be featured in our Christmas stamp designs”, Postmaster General Josie Dela Cruz said. The block of four (4) stamps and souvenir sheets illustrates the spirit of the season characterized by the Christmas trees with colorful decorations and Filipino lanterns displayed at every home during the holidays which were hand drawn by Javee Fua, Kobie Trambulo, Vernice Prado, Lomi Capili, Cedric Chua, Julius Cabuang and Thirdy Cabading which are imprinted in the stamps. PHLPost printed 104,000 copies of the four designs of the Christmas stamps, with P10 denomination. PHLPost is hoping that through the stamps, they will be able to make the public aware of their responsibility in building a nurturing environment to hone the skills of these special children and become members of a productive community. In 2013, PHLPost featured works done by foot and mouth painting artists. In the same event, the program highlight the presentation of the 2016 Philippine Stamp Calendar with several new technologies in stamps featuring Philippine fiestas, traditional musical instruments, Philippine ternos, the Inauguration of the 16th President of the Philippines, Rio Olympics, Philippine treasures, Mars Ravelo’s Darna among others. PHLPost will introduce next year special circular stamps for the Olympics, stamps on silk, 3D embossing and spot lamination, Intaglio printing and gold foil 3D embossing to enhance the look and feel of the upcoming postage stamp issuances. This will also make the country's stamps at par with international standards. Dela Cruz added that PHLPost will continue to use modern printing technology to feature very interesting subjects for the stamps to further the appreciation of the public.

PRESS RELEASE: Business as usual, PHLPost Metro Manila Offices open in November 17 and 20

Need to send your letter or package, or expecting a mail during the long holiday this week? Worry no more as PHLPost Postal Offices in Metro Manila will be open on November 17 and 20, the two non-working days declared by the government in view of Philippines' hosting of APEC Summit.

Postmaster General Josie dela Cruz announced that operations of all post offices in Metro Manila will continue on November 17 (Tuesday) and November 20 (Friday), part of the four non-working days declared in Memorandum Circular 84 by Malacanang.

Dela Cruz added that post offices in NCR are "business as usual" on Tuesday and Friday, and all of the frontline postal workers and letter carriers are ready to serve those who will be sending and expecting mails and parcels.

PHLpost services include ordinary and registered mails , domestic and international express mails/pouch, parcel delivery, postal money order (paper-based and electronic), and bills payment.

Postal Offices will be open from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

PRESS RELEASE: PHLPost introduces cartoon-style sticker stamps

For the first time, the Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) has released a new set of four (4) special limited edition of stamps which uses stick-on self adhesive (sticker) technology featuring different cartoon-style characters that brings to life stamp collectors of all ages.

These cartoon-style sticker stamps is being featured by PHLPost to celebrate the National Stamp Collecting Month this November by virtue of Presidential Proclamation Number 494 signed by former President Fidel V. Ramos, declaring the month of November as National Stamp Collecting Month (NSCM).

“We are proud to see these colorful images comes to life with the special limited edition of stick-on self adhesive stamps PHLPost released for the first time, to connect one another through the posts”, Postmaster General Josie Dela Cruz said.

PHLPost creative artist Rodine Teodoro designed the stamp, featuring collectors young and old, in cartoon-style characters engaged in the hobby of stamp collecting.

About 30,000 sheets of four (4) different designs of the stamps, sold at P15 each were printed by security printer Amstar Company, Inc. measuring 150X50mm for every sheetlet.

Collecting stamps are a favorite and exciting pastime of people who are interested in history, geography, sports, art and world cultures.

Aside from the sticker stamps, PHLPost has introduced several postal innovations in the production of stamps such as the glow in the dark, scented, gold foiled, 3D embossed, personalized, laminated varnish and tactile printing technology.

PRESS RELEASE: PHLPost releases Philipppine Wildlife stamps

The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) has released new set of stamps focusing on some of the endemic Philippine Wildlife animals which are vulnerable from extinction.

Featured are four (4) Philippine wildlife species of stamps positioned in vertical format, and in unique colorful designs are: Philippine Flower Pecker, Philippine Sail-Fin Lizard, Philippine Pangolin and Freshwater Purple Crab.

Philippine Flower Pecker is common in Western Visayas area. The Philippine Sail-Fin Lizard is endemic to the Philippines, where it lives near rivers in tropical forests. Philippine Pangolin and Freshwater Purple Crab are both endemic in Palawan province.

In recent years, however, these animals are threatened by ongoing habitat loss and degradation, and commonly subjected to hunting.

“PHLPost supports the education and information campaign of the government and the private sector in preserving and protecting our country’s wild species of animals who are at risk of extinction”, Postmaster General Josie Dela Cruz said.

The Philippines is considered as one of the mega-diverse country in the world. Its more than 7,100 islands have many endemic species of plants, birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, freshwater, and invertebrates.

About 30,000 sheets of four (4) different designs sold at P15 each were printed by security printer Amstar Company, Inc., measuring 2.362inches X 5.117inches for every sheetlet.

PHLPost creative artist Rodine Teodoro designed the new stamps, which was printed by Amstar Company, Inc.
