PRESS RELEASE: PHLPost releases Noche Buena Stamps to celebrate Christmas

A typical Filipino get-together done after attending Misa De Gallo known as “Noche Buena” is now on postage stamps.
In preparation of the Christmas season, the Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) released its se-tenant strip of four stamps for PASKO 2018 featuring the traditional Filipino feast.
Christmas is one of the grandest holidays in the Philippines where Filipinos celebrate the world’s longest Christmas season with Christmas carols heard as early as of September which lasts until the 3rd Sunday of January of the following year.
The stamp features the “Noche Buena”, the Spanish word for “Christmas Eve”. It consists of a traditional dinner with Lechon (roasted suckling pig) as the center piece being observed since 15th century.
Traditionally, Filipino dinner consists of variety of dishes like lechon, pancit, hamon, queso de bola, puto bumbong, bibingka, fruit salad, suman, and many more comes at midnight after the family hears the late evening mass called “Misa de Gallo”.
The official observance of the Simbang Gabi is on December 16.
PHLPost has printed 50,000 copies of the four (4) designed se-tenant strip of Noche Buena stamp sold for 12 pesos each. The Christmas stamp was designed by PHLPost in-house graphic designer Rodine Teodoro.
The stamps and official first day covers are now available at the Philatelic Counter, Central Post Office, Liwasang Bonifacio 1000, Manila and area post offices nationwide. For inquiries, please call 527-01-32.

The Philippine Postal Corporation recently launched Christmas stamps last November 28 dubbed as “PASKO 2017” featuring artworks of children with cancer and other chronic illnesses.
The Christmas block-of-four stamps feature images of “Children Celebrating Christmas” by 10-year-old Roselyn Mahipas, “Carollers” by 9-year-old Juan Dimata, “Gift-giving” by 15-year-old Estella Benavidez and “A Bag of Gifts” by 12-year-old John Aton, while the souvenir sheet shows “Carollers” as interpreted by 16-year-old Rhey Ocampo. This is in partnership with Kythe Foundation Inc. who has been supporting these children for more than two decades now.
“We would like to highlight on this issuance on what Christmas is all about in the eyes of the children especially those who have been suffering with the big C and other chronic illness,” Postmaster General Joel L. Otarra said in an interview.
PHLPost has printed 80,000 copies of “PASKO 2017” stamp, which costs P12 each and the souvenir sheet P55 and can be availed of until November 28, 2018, or while supplies last at the Philatelic Counter, Manila Central Post Office and all the postal areas of PHLPost.
“We would like to give importance to the creativity of the children that despite their condition they continue to create beautiful and wonderful pieces of artwork,” PMG Otarra added.

PRESS RELEASE: PHLPost releases Parol Stamps to celebrate Christmas
The star-shaped Christmas lantern known locally as "Parol" is now on postage stamps.
The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) released special “Parol” stamps featuring one of the most iconic symbols of Filipino Christmas spirit and goodwill.
The “lantern stamps” features a special or spot lamination which is different from other regular issued postage stamps. The Christmas color of red, white, and green reflects the Filipino Christmas celebration which is colorful, lively and full of bright lights.
Traditionally, the Parol (lanterns) have a star-shaped framework made of bamboo sticks which are then covered by colored pieces of either Japanese or crepe paper. The most common form is a five-pointed star with two decorative “tails”.
Parol is a representation of the star of Bethlehem that was used by the Biblical Magi as marker of the birth place of the baby Jesus.
The star-shaped lanterns are displayed hanging outside the house, along the busy streets and small villages. This kind of lantern was used by barrio folk to light their paths during the ritual yuletide dawn Masses called Misa de Gallo.
Recently, innovations from Pampanga include production of lanterns with electronic lights that can be programmed to produce a dancing effect, using LED rope lights, known as “flexilight” lanterns.

The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) released on Monday, Dec. 7, 2015 the “Pasko 2015” special stamps featuring artworks of persons with autism from Bridges Foundation, Inc., a school that provides education to children with special needs.
PHLPost launched the stamps to coincide with the program called “Kapihan with stamp collectors” held at the historic walled city of Intramuros, Manila.
“We would like to give emphasis to the artistic ability or the talent of persons with developmental disabilities and make it a point that their artworks will be featured in our Christmas stamp designs”, Postmaster General Josie Dela Cruz said.
The block of four (4) stamps and souvenir sheets illustrates the spirit of the season characterized by the Christmas trees with colorful decorations and Filipino lanterns displayed at every home during the holidays which were hand drawn by Javee Fua, Kobie Trambulo, Vernice Prado, Lomi Capili, Cedric Chua, Julius Cabuang and Thirdy Cabading which are imprinted in the stamps. PHLPost printed 104,000 copies of the four designs of the Christmas stamps, with P10 denomination.
PHLPost is hoping that through the stamps, they will be able to make the public aware of their responsibility in building a nurturing environment to hone the skills of these special children and become members of a productive community.
In 2013, PHLPost featured works done by foot and mouth painting artists.
In the same event, the program highlight the presentation of the 2016 Philippine Stamp Calendar with several new technologies in stamps featuring Philippine fiestas, traditional musical instruments, Philippine ternos, the Inauguration of the 16th President of the Philippines, Rio Olympics, Philippine treasures, Mars Ravelo’s Darna among others.
PHLPost will introduce next year special circular stamps for the Olympics, stamps on silk, 3D embossing and spot lamination, Intaglio printing and gold foil 3D embossing to enhance the look and feel of the upcoming postage stamp issuances. This will also make the country's stamps at par with international standards.
Dela Cruz added that PHLPost will continue to use modern printing technology to feature very interesting subjects for the stamps to further the appreciation of the public.
