FSCC auction June 2018

Pictured here is a cacheted slogan cover for Scoutpex '79, which I found in a pack of 10 Philippine covers sold to me in today's auction sale of the Filipinas Stamp Collectors' Club held at Manila.
Scoutpex '79 was the 1st Scout Philatelic Exhibition held at Quezon City from July 4 to 14, 1979, in commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the first national jamboree held at Quezon City in 1954.
The slogan cancel was used in some Metro Manila post offices in June 1979; the one shown here is for the San Juan Post Office.
More than 30 floor bidders, including Philippine Philatelic Journal editor Hans Becker from Cebu and some new faces among the regulars, and three absentee bidders participated in the sale offering a little over 500 lots of philatelic and nonphilatelic collectibles.
After about a week of heavy rains, today was just cloudy with not a single raindrop, for a lovely auction afternoon.

Magsaysay death anniversary

A special occasion cachet commemorating the death anniversary of President Ramon Magsaysay on March 17, 1958 was used at three post offices: Manila, Cebu and Castillejos (Zambales).

Magsaysay was born in Iba (Zambales), so there must be an explanation for Castillejos? He died in a plane crash in Cebu, and was buried in Manila.

He was 49 years old when he died.

Kalayaan

New Issue alert:

PRESS RELEASE: PHLPost releases commemorative stamps to mark Philippine Independence Day

The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) will issue new stamps to commemorate the 120th Anniversary of the proclamation of the Philippine Independence Day on June 12, 2018.
Considered as a National Holiday among the Filipinos, the annual observance of Philippine Independence Day was signed into a law by former President Diosdado Macapagal through Republic Act No. 4166 on August 4, 1964.
According to Philippine history, the declaration of Independence was held on June 12, 1898 by General Emilio Aguinaldo and Filipino revolutionary forces from the Spanish colonization.
Designed by graphic artist Rodine Teodoro, the stamp features the vibrant color of blue and red depicting a silhouette scene of men and women in the Philippine revolution proudly waving the Filipino flag and native bolos used to fight colonial forces.
Imprinted in the stamp are the word Kalayaan and the sun that shines - which symbolizes freedom gained through sacrifices made by Filipino revolutionary forces.
PHLPost has issued 50,000 copies of the single stamp design which can be bought at P12 each.  Another 300 pieces of first day cover envelope were printed to highlight the Philippine Independence Day logo.
The stamps and its official first day cover will be available starting June 12, 2018 at the Central Post Office, Door 203, Liwasang Bonifacio, Manila and area post offices nationwide. For inquiries, please call 527-01-08 or 527-01-32.
