PRESS RELEASE: PHLPost releases rose-scented stamps for Valentines

The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) released special rose-scented stamps to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

The stamps which are specially printed in rose-scented paper will warm the hearts of someone who will receive the stamps to be circulated nationwide in limited quantity.

Some say that flowers have meanings, and the beautiful rose symbolizes love. It signifies something to the person to whom the flowers is given.

About 101,000 pieces of the Valentine’s Day stamps with an image of a single-stem of rose in full bloom and the three words Faith Hope and Love imprinted at the background. The stamps are being sold at P25 each.

The colorful and heartwarming stamps were designed by artist Rodine Teodoro.

PHLPost is expecting that a lot of people will get the stamps either for mailing purposes or for collections. There are stamp collectors who's collection are specializing on Valentine’s Day stamps. 

These Valentine’s Day stamp is unique because of special embellishment added to make it more attractive. PHLPost has used a special kind of ink that smells the fragrant of a rose that will last longer and make it appear like stationery.

PHLPost has also showcased series of scented stamps featuring the late president Cory Aquino’s floral paintings which are among the top selling stamps issued by the postal service.

BCC February 2016 auction

I counted over 50 philatelic lots in the February 7 auction sale of the Bayanihan Collectors Club to be held at the Ortigas Foundation Library.

As usual, coins and banknotes make up most of the 668 lots, although there also are significant numbers listed for books, medals, photographs, postcards, periodicals, maps, prints, paper ephemera, antiques and other collectibles.

As usual, too, or so it seems to me, the schedule falls on the same date as that of the APO Stamp Auction.

Pheepoy

Meet Pheepoy, mascot of the Philippine Postal Corporation.

"He," according to a Philpost bulletin published for this issue, "personifies an honest and dedicated postman, whose primary goal is to deliver the mails rain or shine anywhere in the country and around the world, to the satisfaction of the mailing public. His outgoing spirit, high energy and passion also represent the ideal qualities of every Philpost employee."

Yes, I was a member of the International Philippine Philatelic Society.

The IPPS used to have a membership card and my number was 261, which remained the same for a number of years hence.

Cofounders of the society in 1974 were Linda and Frank Stanfield (1916-1979).

IPPS can only be described in superlatives. Its publications are scholarly and cover all aspects of Philippine philately. Its auction sales offer the most diverse Philippine material. Its members are the best in their fields of interest, garnering the highest awards at philatelic exhibitions.

Red Cross fund campaign

The First Annual Fund Campaign of the Philippine National Red Cross took place from February 1 to 29, 1948, but this campaign was announced earlier by the post office on January 26, the first day of use for this slogan cancellation (last day of use was February 29).

PRESS RELEASE: PHLPost launches commemorative stamps to celebrate 100 years of Philippine Senate

February 3, 2016 

The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) launches the Senate Centennial Commemorative Stamp to mark the 100 years (1916-2016) of the establishment of the Philippine Senate.

Senate President Franklin Drilon and PHLPost Chairman Cesar Sarino will unveil the presentation stamps frame at the Senate February 04, and will sign the official first day cover of the stamps.

“Truly it is an honor for PHLPost to have become part of this celebration. It is but fitting that a stamp will immortalize the achievements of this August body which now have reached its centennial year”, Chairman Sarino said.

According to the Senate website, the Philippine Legislature, composed of the Philippine Senate and the House of Representatives, was created under the Philippine Autonomy Act, popularly known as the Jones Law, which was passed by the Congress of the United States and became law on August 29, 1916.

With independence from America in 1946, the legislature was called the Philippine Congress which shared governmental powers with the executive and the judiciary.

The commemorative stamp features the Philippine Flag, the official seal of the Philippine Senate from old to the new centennial logo, forming it into 100 years. 

PHLPost issued a commemorative stamp to honor or commemorate a place, event or person. It is indeed important that a milestone in Philippine history is recorded and honored with a stamp.

PHLPost commissioned Amstar Co. to print 101,000 copies of the stamps, to be sold at P15 each starting February 01, 2016.
