Harradine handbook

Although dated this Philippine Postage Stamp Handbook, 1854-1982 by Peter W. A. Harradine still is a good reference book.

Hardbound.

This detailed list of stamp issues is arranged according to periods in the history of Philippine philately. Quantities for each issue are given, if known, as well as the relative scarcity.

The illustrations, in black and white, are found in plates tucked in between.

Bought my copy by mail in the latter half of the 1990s from a US bookseller.

PRESS RELEASE: PHLPost to issue OGCC commemorative stamps

August 11, 2015

The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) and the Office of the Government Corporate Counsel (OGCC)) signed an agreement on the issuance of Commemorative Stamps highlighting the OGCC‘s 80th Anniversary.

Postmaster General Josie Dela Cruz and Justice Raoul C. Creencia signed the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) recently at the OGCC head office in Balara, Quezon City.

“The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) takes pride in issuing the commemorative stamps, as we put on record 80 years of OGCC success”, Postmaster General Josie Dela Cruz said.

PHLPost will print limited copies of the commemorative stamp, and official first day cover to be released on December 1, 2015, in time for the OGCC’s 80th anniversary celebration.

The OGCC first began as a small corporate counsel division under the Department of Justice (DOJ) on December 01, 1935.

Based on the agreement, the OGCC anniversary commemorative stamps will feature the first Government Corporate Counsel, the late former Senator and Associate Justice of the Supreme Court Ramon Diokno and the official seal for the anniversary celebration.

A commemorative stamp is often issued for a significant occasion such as an anniversary, to honor or commemorate a place, event, person, or object. It is printed in limited quantities and sold for a much shorter period of time, usually until supplies run out.

PPAC catalogue

For a time back then we used the 1982 Philippine Postage Stamp Catalogue published by the Philippine Philatelic Auction Club.

This simplified, illustrated catalog listed prices for first day covers, mint and used (each was defined in detail) in Philippine currency. Semipostals and officials had separate listings at the back of the book.

"The chief motive in issuing this catalog is to set a standard pricing for Philippine Republic stamps and first day covers that is realistic and fair," read the foreword. "This is a product of several months of research and studies conducted by the PPAC Catalog Committee. Auction sales, dealers transactions, and other factors relative to the issuance of the stamps, etc...,were used to obtain the average prices quoted."

Compilers were Antonio So and Linda Stanfield.
There were 1,000 copies printed, in monochrome (bluish ink). My copy is numbered 104.
Bought it in Davao City back in the early 1980s (by mail from PPAC in Manila).

The first edition of this catalog, if I recall correctly, was dated 1981.

From Galleons to Computers: The Story of The Philippine Postal Service by Chando P. Morallos has a chapter on philately.

Copyright year is 2000 by the Philippine Postal Corporation (PhilPost).
Issued with a dust cover.

It also has a chapter titled "History through Stamps".

The hardbound book is illustrated in black and white or in color.

This was a gift to me in Cagayan de Oro a few years back.

Spanish Philippines postal history

I didn't know so much could be written about Spanish-Philippine postal history until I read the book Postal History of the Spanish Philippines 1565-1898 by Don Peterson and Geoffrey Lewis.

This hardbound book has a copyright year of 2000.
It is illustrated in black and white.

Bought my copy by mail from Don Peterson in the US.
Came with a dust cover.
Unfortunately, pages 159-174 are upside down!

(CPRSI) will manage, maintain and operate the library as well as the conference and seminar room. Armando Labayen is the consultant for operations.

An extract from the article says that "Philatelist and ABSCBN reporter Willard Cheng was invited as guest speaker for the opening program. Cheng, in his speech shared how he got into stamp collecting at an early age of seven, and encouraged the guest students to pursue philately as a hobby."
