PRESS RELEASE: PHLPost holds letter writing day to highlight World Post Day celebration

To develop the passion for letter writing among the youth, the Philippine Postal Corp. (PHLPost) will hold a simultaneous 5th National Letter Writing Day (NLWD) in connection with the worldwide celebration of World Post Day to be held at SM Skydome -North Edsa in Quezon City, and other SM Supermalls branches on October 09.

Selected schools in Metro Manila and the provinces will participate in letter writing activities at SM Mall branches in Cabanatuan, Tarlac, North Edsa Skydome, San Pablo City, Seaside Cebu, Iloilo, Davao and Cagayan De Oro City. 

The event encourages young people to speak their minds, using their imagination and views on the world to envision a positive change in the form of a letter.

PHLPost hopes that the event will be a perfect venue for students to sharpen their skills in composition and find the perfect participant to represent the country in the international letter writing stage which will be held at Universal Postal Union (UPU) headquarters in Berne, Switzerland.

The theme for this year’s Universal Postal Union 46th International Letter Writing Contest is: "Imagine you are an advisor to the new UN Secretary-General which world issue would you help him tackle first and how would you advise him to solve it?"

The topic was chosen to celebrate the election of the new UN Secretary-General, António Guterreswho took his oath of office recently. He is a Portuguese politician and diplomat who is serving as the ninth Secretary-General of the United Nations.

About 150 countries will simultaneously commemorate World Post Day (WPD) on October 09 with activities promoting letter writing and stamp collecting to students as well as new postal services at this special day.
 

Unfazed by the advent of technology, PHLPost has come up with an innovative idea to bnng letter writing in shopping malls where students can converge and express their thoughts and ideas through the art of letter writing.

“'He gave me a handful of used stamps still stuck on envelopes or on parts of envelopes, no doubt a lesson to get me to learn about other countries, geography, zoology and botany, currencies, history, biography and other things that one can learn from stamps. I eventually concentrated on Philippine stamps, but stopped when I could no longer afford to buy the missing items to fill the blanks in my stamp album,'” Jimmy begins.

PRESS RELEASE: CAMBODIA, THAILAND PLEDGE TO JOIN STAMP EXHIBIT IN PH

Two Association of South East Asian Nations member-countries have already committed to join the ASEAN Philatelic Exhibition (ASEANPEx) 2017 on November 4 to 6, 2017, at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City that will be hosted by the Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost).

Cambodia Post and Thailand Post are set to bring in exhibit materials for ASEANPEx 2017, in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the ASEAN. They will also set up a booth where guests can avail of rare and collector’s item stamps from their countries.

Thailand Post is one of the leading postal administrations in the ASEAN. It is also one of the most advanced in terms of technology use. Cambodia, on the other hand, is also on its way to advancement.

ASEANPEx is a showcase of stamps and other philatelic products from the 10 ASEAN countries featuring current issuances, as well as rare and collector’s item stamps.

PRESS RELEASE: PHLPost exhibits zodiac stamps in Nanjing,China

September 19, 2017   Posted By: Corp.Comm The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) releases stamps with special embellishment called “Gold Foil Stamping” to showcase Philippine participation in the People’s Republic of China International Collection Expo 2017 organized by China Postal Administration in Nanjing.
Exhibitors from some 40 countries including the Philippines will showcase their valuable stamp which focuses on Chinese tradition and the evolution of papermaking and art on paper.
The embellished souvenir sheet features the monkey, rooster and dog in the twelve-year Chinese zodiac cycle.
2016 was the year of the monkey while 2017 is the year of the rooster, and 2018 will be the year of the dog.
The upper right corner of the souvenir sheet is the “Nanjing 2017” logo.
The word “Year of the ROOSTER” was printed in gold to emphasize the 2017 Year of the Rooster.
The coming 2018 year of the dog is the eleventh in the 12-year cycle of Chinese zodiac sign.
The dog is the symbol of loyalty, honesty and possesses the best traits of human nature.
People born under this sign are honest, friendly, loyal, smart, straight forward, and venerable and have a strong sense of responsibility.
PHLPost has printed 4,000 copies of the P100 peso denomination of the special “Nanjing” stamp.
In-house graphic artist Rodine Teodoro designed the colorful Chinese zodiac stamps.

"Enthusiasts like Jorge Cuyugan, the current PSCS president, would head down PHLPost to buy the newest issues from the post office’s stamp shop. He is well known for his collection of Rizaliana stamps, and has actually completed all stamps depicting the national hero from collections dating as early as 1906."

"Dr. Ymerson Tan, another collector and a friend of Cuyugan, has a complete collection of the Queen Isabella II stamps — the first stamps issued when the Philippines opened its own postal service during Spanish times. He would also visit the post office regularly to purchase new issues, and he shared how he would get some of the rarest pieces – like a Year of the Monkey stamp that didn’t have the word ‘Monkey’ in it."

"Josie Cura, president of FSCS, would regularly set up a table at the PHLPost lobby, where they would sell old and rare stamps, as well as an indexed calendar of stamp issues for serious and beginning collectors."

"Rodin Teodoro, a stamp designer with over 30 designs under his wing, shares the importance of stamps in our culture. 'When I design, I try to keep it simple but classy because stamps are a way of showing the the world our history and culture.'"
