PRESS RELEASE: PHLPost holds nationwide "Letter Writing Day"

The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) will hold a simultaneous nationwide letter writing campaign focusing on the theme “Sulat ng Bayani sa Henerasyon Ngayon” - to be participated by about 2,000 students in celebration of “World Post Day” on October 07 at 8:30 AM to be held at SM North EDSA Main Building, Cinema 10 and at selected SM Supermall branches all over the country.

The 4th Simultaneous National Letter-writing Day activity will be undertaken in partnership with SM Supermalls and Department of Education. Participating Malls are SM City Cabanatuan, SM City Tarlac, SM City North Edsa, SM City San Pablo, SM City Seaside Cebu, SM City Iloilo, SM City Davao, SM City Cagayan De Oro. PHLPost Area 9 will hold their activity in Zamboanga City National High School.

The NLWD is a national event coinciding with the worldwide celebration of World Post Day. It is celebrated every 9th of October annually, to commemorate the establishment of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in 1874 in the Swiss capital of Berne. Its main purpose is to create awareness of the role of the postal sector in people’s and businesses’ everyday lives and its contribution to the social and economic development of countries.

The Philippines, being an active UPU member, are encouraged to organize their own national activities to celebrate the event, including everything from the introduction or promotion of new postal products and services, to the organization of exhibits and letter writing activities at post offices and mail centers.

Students who will participate in the simultaneous letter writing competition will be asked to write based on the theme of the contest. “We wanted to build and nurture a sense of social commitment, nationalism and love for country. Our heroes were willing to risk their lives to help other people”, Assistant Postmaster General Luis D. Carlos said.

Together with thousands of participating youth, PHLPost further hopes that the activity will provide them the venue to learn the ideals and recommendations embodied in their letters.

The postal service would like to encourage the youth to express his or her thoughts and hopes through letter writing.

PHLPost will gather all the letters made by the participating students for a chance to win P10,000 for the first prize, P7,000 – second prize and P3,000 – third prize.

PRESS RELEASE: PHLPost, SM Manila opens Stamps of the World exhibit

In celebration of World Post Day (WPD), the Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) in partnership with SM Manila will open the “Stamp of the World” Exhibit and On the Spot “Salamat Po” Letter Writing activity for grade school students at the activity center, ground floor of SM City Manila on October 06.

World Post Day is celebrated each year on 9 October, the anniversary of the establishment of the Universal Postal Union (UPU), a specialized agency of the United Nations in 1874 in the Swiss capital, Berne. It was declared World Post Day by the UPU Congress held in Tokyo, Japan, in 1969.

Assistant Postmaster General Luis Carlos said that Communication has evolved with the introduction of e-mails and texts, but the feeling of receiving handwritten letters through the post office cannot be replaced by these technologies.

He added, that “Stamps are not just pieces of paper that we stick onto and envelope. More than that, Stamps are windows to bigger things, connecting and sharing information with people around the world”.

“Stamps of the World” exhibit hopes to spread the knowledge of history, geography, art and world cultures. Stamps have been issued from postal services from all over the world since 1840. People can learn exciting stories that will complement someone’s interest in animals, sports, maps, cars, ships, even movie stars.

The exhibit will have an interactive activity wherein the students will be asked to write a “Thank you letter” to anyone they want using Filipino or English Language following the proper format of writing a letter. The students, the teacher and school will have the chance to win P50,000 in the April 2017 grand draw.

PHLPost will display famous stamps issued by countries coming from the Seven (7) Continents namely, Africa, Antartica, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America and South America. Stamps from Africa’s Tarcissius Malan George Silundika, Zimbabwe’s national hero to Asia’s ancient coins of Kazakhstan, the world history is printed in miniature pieces of art and displayed for the public to see and appreciate.

This P11 brown Terminal Fee Ticket was used at the Port of Tagbilaran City in 2005 as payment of entrance fee for a vehicle.

Official Cash Ticket: PPA

Here's a different Official Cash Ticket...issued by the Philippine Ports Authority.

This was used at the Port of Ozamis on March 24, 2003, as proof of payment for the passenger's entrance fee to the terminal.

Before exiting from the terminal, a guard damages the ticket by making a tear to prevent reuse.

The PPA later labeled the ticket as Terminal Fee Ticket.

Ozamis has changed its spelling to Ozamiz.
