"BOHOL Philatelic Society started upon the urging of Postal Regional Director Fabiolita Ferrareis, and the initiative of Vic Oclarit, Tagbilaran City Main Post Office post master. On September 20,1996 , the BPS was born. Composed of top business leaders and professionals in government and private sector, the BPS soon stuck to the edge in the philatelic scene in the region. Upon its organization, Richard Allan Uy, Philpost 7 Philatelic Adviser and President of Cebu Stamp Club, Inc. together with Rachel Betos, Postal Region 7 Market Specialist conducted a brief seminar – lecture on philately to the newly elected officers and members of the organized stamps club. The seminar taught enthusiasts how to mount an award winning philatelic entry and invited them all to participate in the PhilPostPex '96 Grand Philatelic Exhibition of Philippines Postal Corporation, Region 7 at Cebu City. The founding officer (1996-1997) then were Atty Rosalina C. Abapo (President); Engr. Jose Mariano Tubo (VP); Luz Tambis (Secretary); Engr. Aida Crusit (Treasurer); Tracy Bitoy, CPA (Auditor); John Howell Duke Miñosa, Adam Saligumba, and Orcisimo Ciano (PRO's); Stash Labaria (Business Manager); Lina Tan and Vic Oclarit as Adviser."

special stamps
August 5, 2015
The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) will issue
the joint ASEAN Community special stamps simultaneously with other countries in
the region on August 08, to welcome the “ASEAN Economic Community”.
“The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) welcomes the
joint issuance of the ASEAN community special stamps as our way of promoting
unity and prosperity, speaking with one voice to the rest of the world”,
Postmaster General Josie Dela Cruz said.
The entry from the Socialist Republic of Vietnam recently
won the first prize for both categories in ASEAN Stamp Design Contest
participated in by member countries such as Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia,
Indonesia, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines,
Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
The stamp winner was awarded US$ 1,000 while the postmark
winner received US$ 500. Their designs will be produced as the stamp and
postmark for all the ASEAN countries to reflect the unity of the ASEAN
Community according to the motto of the ASEAN, "One Vision, One Identity,
One Community".
The stamp will be officially issued on August 8, 2015 in
each member state to celebrate the 48th anniversary of ASEAN (The Association
of South East Asian Nations).
PHLPost will host the launching of the Joint Stamp Issue
of the ASEAN Community in cooperation with the Department of Foreign Affairs,
and the ASEAN Stamp Exhibition on August 18, 2015, to be held at the Atrium
Event Area of SM Aura, Taguig City.
The winning postage stamps and postmark designs convey
the idea of ASEAN's unity will be produced as a joint issue stamp and postmark
among the ASEAN countries.
Stamp composition and denomination will depend on each
postal regulation.
The colorful special commemorative stamps will be sold in
the Philippines at P13.00 each and only 101,000 copies were printed by Amstar
Company, Inc. measuring 30X30mm.
The stamps and official first day cover will be available
starting August 8, at the Post Shop, Central Post Office, Door 203, Liwasang
Bonifacio, Manila and area post offices nationwide. For inquiries, please call

According to club member Gary Rosales, the club “aims to promote the advancement of stamp collecting as a means of strengthening love of country and fostering international understanding and friendship.” Part of their mission is for members to be given opportunities to display their stamp collections in non-competitive and competitive exhibitions."

My father traveled widely and sent us postcards. One of my siblings collected the postcards; another collected the matchbooks my dad also picked up in Europe or the States (he stopped smoking decades later). I collected the stamps."
