PRESS RELEASE: PHLPost issues joint ASEAN community
special stamps

The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) will issue
the joint ASEAN Community special stamps simultaneously with other countries in
the region on August 08, to welcome the “ASEAN Economic Community”.
“The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) welcomes the
joint issuance of the ASEAN community special stamps as our way of promoting
unity and prosperity, speaking with one voice to the rest of the world”,
Postmaster General Josie Dela Cruz said.
The entry from the Socialist Republic of Vietnam recently
won the first prize for both categories in ASEAN Stamp Design Contest
participated in by member countries such as Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia,
Indonesia, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines,
Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
The stamp winner was awarded US$ 1,000 while the postmark
winner received US$ 500. Their designs will be produced as the stamp and
postmark for all the ASEAN countries to reflect the unity of the ASEAN
Community according to the motto of the ASEAN, "One Vision, One Identity,
One Community".
The stamp will be officially issued on August 8, 2015 in
each member state to celebrate the 48th anniversary of ASEAN (The Association
of South East Asian Nations).
PHLPost will host the launching of the Joint Stamp Issue
of the ASEAN Community in cooperation with the Department of Foreign Affairs,
and the ASEAN Stamp Exhibition on August 18, 2015, to be held at the Atrium
Event Area of SM Aura, Taguig City.
The winning postage stamps and postmark designs convey
the idea of ASEAN's unity will be produced as a joint issue stamp and postmark
among the ASEAN countries.
Stamp composition and denomination will depend on each
postal regulation.
The colorful special commemorative stamps will be sold in
the Philippines at P13.00 each and only 101,000 copies were printed by Amstar
Company, Inc. measuring 30X30mm.
The stamps and official first day cover will be available
starting August 8, at the Post Shop, Central Post Office, Door 203, Liwasang
Bonifacio, Manila and area post offices nationwide. For inquiries, please call
