20th APOPEX card

Here's an APOPEX souvenir card printed "in conjunction with the visit of Pope Paul VI" with a 10s papal stamp and a 1970 Philatelic Week stamp cancelled on their respective first days of issue. On the back side is a serial number.

The 20th APOPEX (philatelic exhibition of the APO Philatelic Society) was held at the Bureau of Posts building from November 15 to 30, 1970.

FSCC auction October 2019

Here's what I got for P100 in today's auction of the Filipinas Stamp Collectors' Club.

Mint Republic stamps and a souvenir sheet with a total face value of P160.75--that's more than my winning bid! Bargain!

Two dozen bidders participated in the sale offering more than 520 philatelic and nonphilatelic lots.

Seen during the auction were Philippine Philatelic Federation Rey Ong, Philippine Philatelic Journal editor Hans Becker, old-time stamp dealers Rogelio Quistol and Boy Inductivo, and online auction seller Tony So.

Left is genuine, right is a known postal forgery at the time the P1 Benigno Aquino Jr. stamp of 1987 was in current use.

On the forgery the portrait features are not that well defined, there is a period after BENIGNO but none after JR, and the perfs are not right.

Here's what I won in today's auction of the APO Philatelic Society: a neat Philatelic Week 1994 first day cover.

1994 was the final year of Philatelic Week issues as National Stamp Collecting Month issues took over henceforward.

Eleven bidders participated in the auction featuring 374 philatelic and nonphilatelic lots, and the sale was over in just an hour and a half!
