1947 First Definitives issue

The first definitives of the Republic era were pictorials. These were issued as a set on different dates in 1947.

On March 23, the initial two values came out (10c, 20c), followed on June 19 by three (12c, 16c, 50c), and on August 1 by two more (4c, P1).

Quantities for the 4c, 10c, 16c, 20c and 50c were reduced by later overprints, and in the case of the 16c by a further recall.

The 16-centavo value has a design error; it depicts Puerta Real, not Santa Lucia. Because of this, the remaining stocks of both the regular and O.B. overprinted stamps were withdrawn from sale on July 26, 1950.

LUCRECIA R. KASILAG (31 August 1918 – 16 August 2008)

Lucrecia RocesKasilag is an educator, composer, writer, researcher, lecturer, performer, and cultural administrator. She devoted all her professional life to the development of Filipino music and the growth of Filipino musician.

“Tita King,” as she was fondly called, was Chairperson of the League of Filipino Composers for 30 years. She steered her fellow composers towards the attainment of national identity in their works by organizing music festivals and participating in conferences and festivals of Asian music. Her creative efforts spawned a prodigious output of more than 250 compositions of all types, many of which synthesized the myriad influences in our culture.

As music directress, researcher, and composer for the Bayanihan Philippine Dance Company, her distinctive and dynamic treatment of folk and ethnic music has served to complement and heighten the dance repertoire of this world-acclaimed dance troupe.

Tita King was Dean Emeritus of the Philippine Women’s University College of Music for 25 years. During her term, she founded the Philippine Music Ensemble to illustrate the many facets of Philippine Music – ethnic, traditional, and contemporary.

In her 17 years as president of the Cultural Center of the Philippines and 3 more years as special consultant, Tita King, has through her leadership and achievements, forged lasting and important cultural links with the rest of the world. A measure of the value of her life-long commitment to the arts is found in the numerous awards, decorations, citations and academic honors she has received.

Dr. Kasilag has untiringly worked to raise the level of music education and appreciation in the country, striving to integrate the making and enjoyment of music in community life. Through her devotion to her art, she has added important new dimensions to our musical traditions. More importantly, she has re-awakened our people to the worth of Filipino musician and his music.

Lucrecia R. Kasilag was proclaimed National Artist for Music in 1989 by President Corazon C. Aquino.

The National Teacher’s Month held from September 5 to October 5, is a movement led by Metro Bank Foundation, Department of Education, and various multi-sectoral groups which recognize Filipino teachers and educators and their contributions in shaping the country’s future.
This year’s theme is “Gurong Pilipino: Turo Mo, Kinabukasan Ko.” Schools . companies, government agencies, local government units, private groups, and individuals are enjoined to participate in this year’s National Teacher’s Month.
The culmination of this year’s celebration will be held in Ormoc City Superdome, Larrazabal Boulevard, San Pedro Street, Ormoc City on October 5, 2018. Different World Teacher’s Day celebrations will also be held simultaneously nationwide. The Department of Education is spearheading this year’s celebration of National Teacher’s Day celebration that will bring altogether 6,500 teachers from public schools from all regions.

COMMEMORATIVE COVER History Con 2018

August 24, 2018

The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) will issue a special“COMMEMORATIVE COVER” on August 10, 2018to mark its participation in History Con 2018 at the World Trade Center, Pasay City. It will have slogan-cancelled in Manila and Pasay City. This is PHLPost initial participation in History Con 2018, which is in its third year installment in Manila.

History Con is a gathering of history buffs, hobbyists and entertainment enthusiasts coming altogether to witness a festival that brings aspirations and interests to Filipinos. The festival includes world record attempts, meet and greet events, lectures, performances and tournaments. The three day event is participated by over 300 exhibitors.

The commemorative cover, designed by Rodine C. Teodoro, will be sold at thirty pesos (PHP 30) per piece. The design of the slogan canceller features the Pilipinas Philately and the History Con 2018 Logo.

Commemorative covers will be available for sale starting on August 10, 2018 at the PHLPost Counter, World Trade Center, Pasay City.

1946: 50th Anniversary of Martyrdom of Rizal issue

The only other Republic stamp issued in 1946 was for the 50th anniversary of the Martyrdom of Dr. Jose Rizal on December 30. This was an overprint of a Commonwealth definitive issued earlier in 1946 before the Proclamation of Independence issue.

The first issue of the Republic era was a set of three stamps released on July 4, 1946 for the Proclamation of Independence.
