1947: Postage Dues

The first and only postage due stamps of the Republic era were issued on October 20, 1947 as a set of four values.

If not stored properly, the 10c is prone to oxidation; the orange ink turns to brown and eventually to black.

In 1937, the 4-centavo due was surcharged 3 centavos in blue.

These dues depict a post office clerk.

The first time postage due stamps were issued by the Philippines came out during the American administration.

These were postage dues of the United States overprinted PHILIPPINES in black reading diagonally upwards.

The 1c, 2c, 5c, 10c and 50c values were released in 1899, and the 3c and 30c in 1901.
