Whenever I see the 1979 Fight Drug Abuse issue, it reminds of the early Chainbreaker stamps of Slovenia. Similar in the design subject but, of course, the Chainbreakers were issued for something else than fighting drug abuse.
Bought these mint blocks of four (and a first day cover of the three values) from today's auction conducted by the Filipinas Stamp Collectors' Club. This lot came from a long-time consignor who passed away the other week. In his remembrance we paused for a moment in silent prayer before the sale began.
Some 30 or so bidders participated in the battle for a little less than 500 of the more than 500 listed philatelic and nonphilatelic lots (one of the consignors was absent).
Tomorrow, the "Spring" stamp exhibit opens at the lobby of the Manila Central Post Office. It will run until Saturday.
