PRESS RELEASE: PHLPost launches “Mahaguyog festival” special stamps

The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) in cooperation with the Municipality of Sto. Tomas in Batangas will launch on November 6 the special stamps featuring the “Mahaguyog festival”, showcasing the town’s bountiful harvest of agricultural crops.
The “Mahaguyog Festival” which is celebrated every February, is derived from the word that best describe the town’s main products such as mais (corn), halaman (plant), gulay (vegetables) and niyog (coconut).
The festivities celebrate the abundance of the place which is situated along the slopes of Mt. Makiling and the Mt. Malarayat mountain ranges.
The “Mahaguyog Festival” which is celebrated every February, is derived from the word that best describe the town’s main products such as mais (corn), halaman (plant), gulay (vegetables) and niyog (coconut).

“We congratulate the municipal government and the people of Sto. Tomas, Batangas for their commitment to develop local tourism highlighting the colorful Mahaguyog festival stamps as their means of encouraging local and foreign tourists”, Postmaster General Josie Dela Cruz said.
The festival also highlights Sto. Tomas famous son, General Miguel Malvar, the gallant leader of the Filipino revolutionary forces as a successful farmer, his passion and love for agriculture in his hometown, before and after his stint in the revolutionary. PHLPost has recently issued a commemorative stamps marking his150th birth anniversary this year.

PHLPost printed 101,000 copies of the “Mahaguyog festival” stamps, sold at P10 each.
The stamps, designed by PHLPost in-house layout artist Rodine Teodoro, feature colorful representation of different fruits and vegetables that are locally grown, with the official municipal seal at the background.
The stamps and official first day cover are now available at the Post Shop, Central Post Office, Door 203, Liwasang Bonifacio, Manila and area post offices nationwide. For inquiries, please call 527-01-08 or 527-01-32.
