Some 50 people were around during this afternoon's auction conducted by the Filipinas Stamp Collectors' Club held at Manila, but only about 30 collectors participated in the sale. Dropping by to chat with members of the club were Philippine Philatelic Journal editor Hans Becker, stamp dealer Ysmael "Boy" Inductivo and retired stamp dealer Rogelio Quistol.
Some new bidders livened up the competition so much so that none of my bids were successful! Nevertheless, I didn't go home empty-handed. Shown here is a mailpiece I got from a bourse dealer.
This card is a notice of meeting sent by the Service Stamp Collectors' Club to one of its members. The activity for October 24, 1939 was for a "goulash auction" (sounds like food and fun!). It says "You pays your money, and you takes your choice!". Anyway, this club billed itself as "The Only Far Eastern Chapter of the American Philatelic Society".
A total of 500 lots, philatelic and nonphilatelic collectibles, were offered during the FSCC auction.
