PRESS RELEASE: PHLPOST LAUNCHES SBMA 25th ANNIVERSARY COMMEMORATIVE STAMP

Many a thing comes to mind when you hear the place Subic. There's the Water Theme Park, Subic Bay Ocean Adventure; the wildlife park, ZOOBIC Safari; picturesque beaches; high mountains; untouched forests; shopping malls; modern ports; to name a few--all these things on top of world-class infrastructures and its accessibility to global investors.
November 24, 2017 marked a milestone for the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority as they celebrated their 25th founding anniversary and the Philippine Postal Corporation partnered with them for this celebration.
PHLPost launched the SBMA 25th Anniversary Commemorative Stamps on their celebration at the Volunteers' Shrine. A commemorative frame was given to Sen. Richard Gordon, the first SBMA Chairman and a former Olongapo City Mayor. Senator Gordon is also credited for his efforts in the conversion of the military base into a free port zone.
"SBMA raised the standards in ports and free ports in the country.... Ports act as catalysts for development in a country. With this, I believe that SBMA is enabling this catalyst by pushing the Port of Subic to become the country's major container terminal by providing free accreditation up to December 31 this year to all port-related businesses, as I have heard from the news," PHLPost Director Liberty Avila said in her speech.
She added, "For the past 25 years, SBMA played a big part in developing this military base into a place conducive to both leisure and business. Subic has become a place for economic growth, as well as recreation. This balance in the community, in my opinion, is what keeps Subic going."
The commemorative stamp shows the Children of the Sun Returning Monument and the SBMA 25thAnniversary Logo and was co-designed by Ferdee M. Marcelo with Victorino Z. Severo of PHLPost. There are 80,000 copies of the stamp and 4,000 copies only of the souvenir sheet. The commemorative stamp can be bought at P12 and the souvenir sheet at P100.
The stamps are available until November 23, 2018, at the Philatelic Counter, Manila Central Post Office and all the postal areas of PHLPost.
