DAVPEX '83

This was the poster for DAVPEX '83 organized by the Davao Stamp Collectors on the occasion of the club's first year anniversary.

The stamp exhibit was held from March 14 to 20, during the weeklong celebration of Araw ng Dabaw, at the Art Centre Davao.

A souvenir program was also printed using the same design for its cover, with a list of the the club's roster of members totaling 52. President was Virginia H. Europa, secretary Fe T. Gionson, treasurer Mary Julpha Antonio and PRO Caesar Somoso.

In his message published in the souvenir program, J. Roilo S. Golez, postmaster general, said the following:

"Philately, like any other fields of Art, requires a great deal of patience, painstaking effort and a comprehensive knowledge of stamps. Through it, culture and history blend. The stamps of an era reflect its temperament, its aspirations and its heights. Thus we see faces of heroes, brilliant ideas and movements toward a common goal."

He continues: "The Philatelist therefore is an artist, a historian and a dedicated worker. Through his collections we can trace the past, evaluate the present and perhaps visualize the future."

The exhibits, mounted on frames or illustration board, covered the entire four walls of the Art Centre Davao (in place of the paintings for sale). Dr. Nicanor del Rosario, a dentist and a member of the club, owned the place (he had his clinic inside). There was a raffle during the opening and this was most likely the time when specimen stamps were given out to members.

The specimen stamps, in glassines, came from the postal people who were guests of honor during the cutting of the ceremonial ribbon.
